Our factory tour of Charleston Forge highlights the talents of an American furniture maker that utilizes innovation and artisan skills to create stunning heirlooms for the home. Cradled in the rugged, wind-swept mountains of Boone, North Carolina, the facility provides jobs that have not been available in many American towns for decades.
We took some time to watch and learn from the master craftspeople. Special thanks to Erin for showing us how all the pieces fit together and to each artisan who took the time to explain their work.
It typically takes a couple of months for an order to be transformed from raw steel to graceful furniture. The steel is manipulated by hand and machine as it passes through forging, welding, and finishing. Wood and glass materials used in designs are sourced from within the region, which keeps the carbon footprint of operations modest. MakeNest is proud to be a design business that supports American artisans and makers.
